Thatababy

By Jonathan Lemon

"Thatababy" stars a sharp, savvy infant and his holding-on-for-dear-life parents. Family life is quite a trip, and these three navigate it with hefty doses of music, movies and the rest of the arts that keep us all young at heart. The strip is a perfect pairing of punk rock and parenting, pop culture and pre-K. Expect sci-fi references, song lyrics and the odd science factoid as Thatababy discovers the fascinating world around him. Oh, and diaper jokes. Obviously.

Created by Paul Trap, "Thatababy" was a finalist in the Amazon Comic Strip Superstar contest in 2009 before starting syndication in 2010. At the end of 2025, Trap handed the reins toddler leash to veteran cartoonist Jonathan Lemon ("Alley Oop," "Rabbits Against Magic"). Lemon's take on the strip feels fresh yet familiar—sure to please longtime fans and newcomers alike.

About Jonathan Lemon

Jonathan Lemon was asked by Paul Trap to take over his long-running "Thatababy" strip in 2026. Lemon also draws the "Alley Oop" comic strip, which has been running since 1933 and has been featured on a U.S. postage stamp and in the lyrics of a David Bowie song. He also draws and writes "Rabbits Against Magic," which has been running daily since 2006 and was nominated for the National Cartoonists Society Silver Reuben Award in 2012, 2014, and 2021.

A longtime California resident, he is originally from London, England, and was once a stand-up comedian and a very minor pop star. He attended the University of Havana, Cuba, and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras. Somewhere between his time living abroad and returning home, he decided to throw his life away and become a full-time cartoonist.

In his fantasy spare time, he reads a lot of vintage travel books, plays soccer, scribbles in his sketchbooks, and devours music and cinema from obscure parts of the world.

He lives in San Francisco’s wonderful Mission District with his spousal unit and their small human child. They have no cats.
